D<\/span> ie Pr\u00e4fektur von Preveza liegt im s\u00fcd\u00f6stlichen Teil des Bezirkes Epirus am Eingang des Ambrakischen Golfes und hat eine Fl\u00e4che von ungef\u00e4hr 1.036 Quadratkilometer.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sie grenzt im Norden an die Pr\u00e4fekturen Ioannina und Thesprotia, im S\u00fcden und S\u00fcdosten an die Pr\u00e4fektur Arta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Stadt Preveza wurde genau an der M\u00fcndung des Ambrakischen Golfes gebaut. Dieser Golf mit seinem Doppeldelta der Fl\u00fcsse Louros und Arachthos und seinen seichten Lagunen umfasst ein seltenes \u00d6kosystem, welches durch die RAMSAR Konvention der Feuchtgebiete streng gesch\u00fctzt ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Stadt wurde Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts<\/strong> nach der Verw\u00fcstung von Nikopolis gegr\u00fcndet und ist das wirtschaftliche und administrative Zentrum der Pr\u00e4fektur. Es ist auch der wichtigste Hafen und Kommunikationsknotenpunkt zwischen Epirus - Akarnanien und Griechenland - Italien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ganz in der N\u00e4he, nur 600 Meter entfernt, befindet sich das sandige Kap von Aktio, bekannt f\u00fcr die ber\u00fchmte gleichnamige Seeschlacht von 31 v. Chr., mit dem eine Stra\u00dfenverbindung durch den Unterwasser-Tunnel besteht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Seegebiet in der N\u00e4he von Preveza stand w\u00e4hrend der Schlacht von Preveza im Jahr 1538 erneut im Mittelpunkt der Weltgeschichte und best\u00e4tigte die strategische Lage der Stadt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00f6rdlich von Preveza und sieben Kilometer davon entfernt befinden sich die weitl\u00e4ufigen Ruinen des antiken Nikopolis, die Octavian um 30 v. Chr., in Erinnerung an seinen Sieg \u00fcber seine Gegner Mark Antony und Cleopatra nach der Seeschlacht errichtete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geschichte<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Nach der Seeschlacht in Aktio folgte die Stadt dem Schicksal aller nahe gelegenen St\u00e4dte von Lefkada bis Arta. Die Venezianer, die Preveza als entscheidend f\u00fcr ihre Herrschaft im Ionischen Meer betrachteten, besetzten es 1717 dauerhaft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Truppen Napoleons \u00fcberqueren Preveza 1798 und im selben Jahr wird die Stadt von Ali Pascha angegriffen, der sie im Auftrag der T\u00fcrken besetzt. Leider blieb Preveza auch w\u00e4hrend der griechischen Revolution unter t\u00fcrkischer Besatzung und musste bis in den Balkankriegen warten, um wieder Griechisch zu werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

W\u00e4hrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde Preveza von den Italienern und Deutschen gewaltig Bombardiert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
